Musician Charlie Garner was the first host of the Grinders Switch Hour, in 2004, and his passing led to the establishment of the Charlie Garner Memorial Scholarship (or two) for a graduating high school senior. The priority of the Garner family is a student who will be the first in his or her family to attend college; Charlie, the first in his family to finish high school, and his wife Dianne were able to offer that assistance to each of their three children. Funds are raised by the Hickman County Chamber of Commerce in various ways, but mostly through a dinner and roast. Honorees have included these good sports: Neil Jobe, David Anderson, Steve Turner, Bill McDonald and Douglas T. Bates III. Who will be next?
